Having realised his dream of taking part in the legendary Iditarod sled dog race in Alaska in 1994, Kenth Fjellborg returned to Lapland with the ambition to provide quality sled dog adventures for tourists. In 1995 Kenth and Ann created Fjellborg Arctic Journeys which, thanks to the couple’s combined knowledge of outdoor tourism and mushing, quickly became a leading provider of sled dog tours in Lapland. In addition to the company’s private bookings, for over ten years Fjellborg Arctic Journeys has also produced sled dog adventures for world famous ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi. In 1996 Kenth Fjellborg decided it was time to create a sled dog race for ordinary people. In a joint venture together with outdoor outfitter Fjällräven Kenth organized the race known as Fjällräven POLAR which was held each year between 1996 and 2006. The event attracted thousands of applicants from all over Europe and the chosen participants (all without previous mushing experience) were given the task to drive a team of sled dogs a staggering 300 kilometres through Arctic Lapland. Not only did the participants succeed, they also had a great time on the trail! When Fjellborg Arctic Journeys in 2005 was approached by H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco about the possibility of training and supplying dogs for his North Pole Expedition, the Fjellborg team did not think twice. The following spring Kenth Fjellborg and Senior Guide Tom Frode Johansen together with 42 dogs set off from Camp Barneo in the Arctic Ocean as part of Prince Albert’s expedition. For more information about the journey to the North Pole visit Events. For dogs and people at Fjellborg Arctic Journeys a new adventure is always around the corner. While a return to international distance sled dog racing is possible, it is not only the big adventures that count. Having mushed along trails in many places around the world, Kenth and Ann still claim that the best sledding is found in Lapland! ![]() |
