Dog sled ride in winter wonderland including an overnight stay at the delightful Fjellborg Wilderness Lodge and a visit to ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi. 2-day program. This program begins at Kiruna Airport where we greet guests upon their arrival to the magic world 200 km north of the Arctic Circle. At the airport you are equipped with quality Arctic clothing before being introduced to our friendly teams of Alaskan Huskies. While other travellers are being transported to their hotel by bus or taxi your first encounter with Lapland will be far more exciting! While we take care of your luggage you will take a seat on the reindeer hides of one our comfortable sleds and within minutes you are whisked off into winter wonderland. Our eager sled dogs move at an even pace along the trail which winds through snow clad forests, across frozen lakes and into the heart of the Lapland wilderness. Around noon we stop for a delicious lunch served by the warming fire inside a kåta, which is the name of the wooden tipi typical of Lapland. Later in the afternoon we reach our destination – the delightful Fjellborg Wilderness Lodge situated on the shore of Lake Väkkärä. This is a remote location and the forests surrounding the Lodge are more often frequented by moose, reindeer and other wildlife than by man. Through the services of our friendly staff this excursion allows you to enjoy this unique environment, often called Europe’s last wilderness, in style and comfort. On our arrival to the Wilderness Lodge we are offered hot drinks by the open fire and have time to relax in the traditional wood heated sauna before dinner is served in the main cabin. On the menu are Lapland specialties such as reindeer, arctic char or salmon and desserts made from locally picked blueberries or cloudberries (vegetarian diets can be accommodated with advance notice.) On a clear evening the bright stars of the northern hemisphere and the dancing northern lights provide spectacular entertainment before it is time to go to sleep in our cosy log cabins. After a big breakfast the following morning we enjoy a scenic journey by dog sled to the Fjellborg Homestead in Poikkijärvi, 15 km away. The Homestead is beautifully situated overlooking the magnificent Torne River and is the home of around 100 friendly huskies. You are offered a guided tour of this world-class kennel and have the chance to get to know the extraordinary canine athletes better. Many of the dogs that you will meet took part in the North Pole Expedition lead by Prince Albert II of Monaco in 2006. After a light lunch served at the Homestead it is time to visit the world famous ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi. Here you enjoy a guided tour of this spectacular hotel which is built entirely from ice and snow. The hotel includes an ice church, an icebar and an ice gallery and offers two cosy restaurants. When the visit to ICEHOTEL is completed we will provide transfer to the airport for guests departing from Kiruna on the same day. However, a popular choice among our guests is to add an extra night to the holiday in Lapland by including a stay at ICEHOTEL.
