The Homestead - Poikkijärvi
The Fjellborg Homestead is the ideal gateway to the vast wilderness above the Arctic Circle. Located in the village of Poikkijärvi, the Homestead is easily reached from Kiruna Airport and has a perfect setting by the magnificent Torne River, which is a mushing highway from December through April.

During their stay at the Fjellborg Homestead, guests can take a short walk across the ice of the Torne River to visit the world famous ICEHOTEL. From the local atmosphere of Poikkijärvi to the international flavour of the hotel’s ICEBAR, our unique location enables guests to experience the very best of Lapland.

At the Homestead guests stay in comfortable accommodation and have a great opportunity to get to know our dogs and the different aspects of running a sled dog kennel. Before departing on one of our journeys, guests will be instructed by our guides on how to handle the sled and our dogs.

The Wilderness Lodge - Lake Väkkärä
Knowing the remote corners of Lapland by heart, Fjellborg Arctic Journeys has chosen to build its Wilderness Lodge on a strategic location within a day’s journey from the Homestead and in the midst of the Arctic wilderness.

Guests staying at the Lodge are able to experience the true wilderness while at the same time being able to relax in comfortable facilities. Outstanding meals are served in the spacious main building and accommodation is provided in cosy cabins sleeping up to four people. Crystal clear running water comes from the lodge’s own well and a traditional wood-heated sauna provides soothing relaxation.

For the adventurous spirit the Wilderness Lodge is a great starting point for enjoyable daytrips. The pristine surroundings can be explored on snowshoes, cross-country skis or by dog sled and for those wanting to try their luck ice fishing, Lake Väkkärä is just outside the door.

The Hunting Cabin - Jäkkälä
The Jäkkälä Hunting Cabin, situated south-east of Poikkijärvi, was built by Kenth Fjellborg’s grandfather back in the days when haymaking on the Jäkkälä bogs was crucial for the survival of both man and livestock.
Today this is a rustic wilderness retreat which provides perfect accommodation for long distance mushers looking for a warming shelter.

To reach the Hunting Cabin from the Homestead we travel along the legendary Tobacco Trail which in the 17th century was a trade route connecting Lapland with Russia. The Jäkkälä Hunting Cabin offers basic but cosy accommodation and in true Lapland style there is of course a sauna on the premises!
