Drive your own team of sled dogs to a relaxing stay at the Fjellborg Wilderness Lodge. 3-day program.

This three-day program begins at Kiruna Airport where guests are greeted by guides from Fjellborg Arctic Journeys. After a short transfer you arrive at the beautifully situated Homestead in Poikkijärvi where the Fjellborg family live together with their large pack of friendly huskies. During the welcome lunch you are briefed about the excursion itinerary and introduced to the basics of sled dog mushing. Next you will change into expedition gear, re-pack your equipment and get ready to meet the dogs! The Fjellborg Alaskan Huskies are exceptionally friendly and athletic and know nothing better than to hit the trails together with their team mates.

In the afternoon we sled from the Homestead in Poikkijärvi to the comfortable Fjellborg Wilderness Lodge situated by Lake Väkkärä, 15 km further north. At the Wilderness Lodge the dogs are treated to a well deserved rest in their private doghouses, which you will help fill up with fresh straw before relaxing in the traditional wood heated sauna. In the evening a delicious dinner is served in the large main building. On a clear night the amazing Aurora Borealis provide spectacular late night entertainment before it is time to go to bed in the cosy log cabins.

The next day is spent in and around the Wilderness Lodge where you have a number of activities to choose from. You can explore the surroundings on snowshoes or cross-country skis, try ice fishing or go for a shorter sled dog excursion. Or why not spend the day in the cosy Wilderness Lodge, enjoying a glass of wine and a good book by the open fire? The wood-heated sauna provides great relaxation after a day in the wild and in the evening we all gather for an outstanding meal in the main cabin.

On the final day of the excursion we re-pack our sleds after breakfast and sled back to the Homestead. During our journey there will be plenty of time to enjoy the winter wonderland and perhaps spot some wildlife too! Around noon we stop for a delicious lunch served inside a kåta, which is the name of the tipi-style dwelling originally used by the indigenous Sami people.

The last leg of our journey takes us back to the Homestead where it is time to say goodbye to the dogs. The program is completed in the early afternoon and guests who are departing from Kiruna Airport on the same day will receive a transfer to the airport. It is worth noting that the world famous ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi is situated only a few minutes away. A popular choice among our guests is to add a few extra days to their holiday in Lapland by including a visit to nearby ICEHOTEL.
